Stillness
Stillness is teaching us value
Value the way sunlight hits forsythia, papery while robustly yellow
The way an eggshell sings as it’s cracked against porcelain
And the cradling of yolk by egg white
Value the sound of her breath, holding you through the phone
The image of her skin beneath your fingertips, warmed by sleep
The gait of her tongue, walking onto yours
The pulsing of soft shapes between limbs
Value the moment when existences become a circuit
Value memories so powerful that they open you to pain
Value glances that now must tell stories
And value each patient instant
An eyelash falls
Two breaths blow
